WAIMAKARIRI RIVER UPDATE & PENDING IRRIGATION SHUTDOWN

The ECAN river restriction is currently at 13% allocation and it is likely we will near a full restriction posting for tomorrow, we will update this status at 2pm today.

Given the river flow is low along with irrigation demand it is a prime opportunity for WIL to bund off the intake structure for our annual inspection to determine if any damage has occurred during the season and make what ever plans are needed for repairs.

We are currently making plans to finalise this work and will keep you updated. It is likely stock water will only be available next week. If a full restriction is posted in the comings days we may take the opportunity to bund the intake off now so works can commence on site early next week. The intention to open the intake again depending on the environmental conditions once the works are complete.

Rest assured stock water flows should remain available all going to plan.

The Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd Scheme is a shareholder-owned cooperative company with consent to take water 11.041 cumecs from the Waimakariri River. Water is drawn from the Waimakariri River at Browns Rock for distribution through 1,100 kilometres of open race channels to supply around 200 shareholders. The Scheme supplies farms covering approximately 30,000 ha within an overall area of 78,000 ha and is located between the Waimakariri and the Ashley Rivers and between Oxford and Rangiora townships.
