Irrigation Scheme / Weather Update

The predicted forecast is for 120mm+ of rain tonight for the Canterbury Plains.

We have already shut the main intake and siphons in anticipation of this event. The intake and main siphons were shut down last night so the network should be drained of stockwater.

Additionally, flood gates have been opened and distributary races closed this morning to divert flood flows were possible.

Please contact the council (0800 965 468) with any flood related issues, if it is life threatening call 111.

The Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd Scheme is a shareholder-owned cooperative company with consent to take water 11.041 cumecs from the Waimakariri River. Water is drawn from the Waimakariri River at Browns Rock for distribution through 1,100 kilometres of open race channels to supply around 200 shareholders. The Scheme supplies farms covering approximately 30,000 ha within an overall area of 78,000 ha and is located between the Waimakariri and the Ashley Rivers and between Oxford and Rangiora townships.
