BROWNS ROCK INTAKE RE-OPENED FOR STOCKWATER ONLY

The intake was re-opened at 12.00 noon today. Stock water should be flowing throughout the majority of the scheme by tomorrow morning; the farthest reaches may take till later in the day tomorrow.
The river peaked 1135m3/sec at Otarama at 10.00pm last night and is only just declining in the lower parts of the river now.

Irrigation Water Orders
We are unable to get the intake screens operating at the required flow capacity. We will need to wait until the river drops further to allow access for the excavator to clear shingle away.

We will update you as soon as the intake is able to be re-opened for irrigation water delivery.

The Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd Scheme is a shareholder-owned cooperative company with consent to take water 11.041 cumecs from the Waimakariri River. Water is drawn from the Waimakariri River at Browns Rock for distribution through 1,100 kilometres of open race channels to supply around 200 shareholders. The Scheme supplies farms covering approximately 30,000 ha within an overall area of 78,000 ha and is located between the Waimakariri and the Ashley Rivers and between Oxford and Rangiora townships.
