BROWNS ROCK INTAKE CLOSURE OF IRRIGATION WATER

Unfortunately, due to rising river conditions further single and debris has migrated into the intake blocking the screens and causing the screens to regularly pop out of the water.

We have trialed cutting flows back but still this occurs.

To protect the asset the intake will remain reduced to Stock Water flows only until attempts can be made to clear the single and debris tomorrow.

Irrigators please turn off as water subsides.

We will update you as soon as the intake is able to be re-opened.

The Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd Scheme is a shareholder-owned cooperative company with consent to take water 11.041 cumecs from the Waimakariri River. Water is drawn from the Waimakariri River at Browns Rock for distribution through 1,100 kilometres of open race channels to supply around 200 shareholders. The Scheme supplies farms covering approximately 30,000 ha within an overall area of 78,000 ha and is located between the Waimakariri and the Ashley Rivers and between Oxford and Rangiora townships.
