BROWNS ROCK WATER INTERUPTION UPDATE

There will be an interruption to water flows at the intake tomorrow morning for a few hours while we undertake river works at the intake. During the flood event on Xmas day the main channel moved closer to the intake preventing access for the excavator due to the water depth.

We have been upstream of the intake modifying the channel most of this week to help take some water pressure away from the intake. The screens need dug in tomorrow morning. We need to lift both screens at the same time to help with access for the excavator, so this is why the flow will be cut off for a period of time.

We will provide an update again tomorrow.

The Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd Scheme is a shareholder-owned cooperative company with consent to take water 11.041 cumecs from the Waimakariri River. Water is drawn from the Waimakariri River at Browns Rock for distribution through 1,100 kilometres of open race channels to supply around 200 shareholders. The Scheme supplies farms covering approximately 30,000 ha within an overall area of 78,000 ha and is located between the Waimakariri and the Ashley Rivers and between Oxford and Rangiora townships.
