To be leaders in Water Management providing Reliable, Economic and Sustainable Supply
Waimakariri scheme will be shut down today, with the water flows expected to resume on Friday. The shutdown is to allow us to begin the process of lining sections of the main race. Ongoing seepage monitoring of the canal over the past year has highlighted the need for this work, which is expected to conclude mid-September.
In order to carry out the lining, water will be diverted around the work site via a bypass channel. This will minimise the disruption, while allowing contractors to install the liner. The bypass channel will maintain a reduced flow for all stock water races until the lining works are completed.
What a turbulent winter it has been with high rainfall resulting in flooding events. We appreciate your understanding as to how difficult it can be during these times to combine maintenance works, minimise flood events and try to keep a reliable water supply going. We will keep you updated on further closures over the coming weeks
We apologise for the inconvenience, but this work is critical, and is being timed to ensure a more reliable supply of water when demand is critical in spring and summer.
