Ownership Structure

Waimakariri Irrigation Ltd has 275 shareholders with a total of 18,000 shares. It is an unlisted company, registered under the Companies Act 1993 on 1 April 1998. The Company was also registered as a co-operative company under the Co-operative Companies Act 1996 on 26 June 1998. Shareholders must be farmers wishing to use the water on their land and cannot hold more than one share per hectare of land farmed within the scheme area.
